BENTON HARBOR — The discovery of the drawing of a slave ship in a missionary’s journal written 185 years ago led to a book and movie called “Awakening to Justice: Faithful Voices from the Abolitionist Past.”
What made the drawing and journal so incredible was that they documented the horrible living conditions on the ship of people bound for slavery, said the Rev. Chris Momany, pastor of Dowagiac First United Methodist Church in Dowagiac and a native of Benton Harbor.
